Have you been asked by your chartering organization to become a leader?

  1. Start by filling out the adult application which can be done three different ways:
    1. Fill out the paper copy of the adult application.  Your chartering organization should be able to give you a copy or stop by the Boy Scout Service Center at 8478 W Gage Blvd.
    2. Visit Scouting.org/Forms and download and print the PDF version of the adult application.
    3. Your chartering organization may be accepting online applications.  If so, they will send you a direct link to fill out the form or you can visit BeAScout.org to search for the unit. 
  2. Ensure that your application is fill out completely and that you have signed the criminal background check authorization page located on the last page.
  3. Ensure that your application is signed/approved by the Chartering Organization Representative.  (CR)
  4. Complete the Youth Protection Training by either creating a My.Scouting.org account or logging into your account.  Training will take about 1.5 hours.  Once completed, make sure to visit your training dashboard, click on completed courses and print our your certificate.  Attached you certificate to your adult application.
  5. Make sure to turn in your application to either your chartering organization to turn in or to the council office at 8478 W Gage Blvd in Kennewick, WA.

Note:  You must be approved by the chartering organization, have completed the Youth Protection training, and passed a background check before becoming a member of the BSA. Members are strongly encouraged to also get trained for their position as soon as possible.

Merit Badge Counselor

To become a merit badge counselor you will need to do the following.

  1. All new merit badge counselors must fill out the adult application, even if you're a current adult leader. (current merit badge counselor wishing to add badges do not need to fill out another application) You can either:
    1. Get an adult application from the Boy Scout Service Center at 8478 W Gage Blvd in Kennewick, WA.
    2. Print and fill out the PDF version of the adult application at Scouting.org/Forms
  2. Complete the Youth Protection Training by either creating a My.Scouting.org account or logging into your account.  Training will take about 1.5 hours.  Once completed, make sure to visit your training dashboard, click on completed courses and print our your certificate.  Attached you certificate to your adult application.
  3. Fill out the Merit Badge Counselor application in full including a brief description on why you qualify for each.
    1. Merit Badge Counselor application can be obtained at the council office or at Scouting.org/Forms.
